Three Glass Skills Australia (GSA) apprentices proved without a doubt they are among Queensland’s top tradesmen, taking accolades at the industry’s night of nights.
Winners were announced at the Queensland Glass and Glazing Industry Awards in Brisbane last night (Friday 24 June), with the GSA graduates taking honours.
The awards event is hosted by the Glass & Aluminium Association of Queensland (GAAQ) – the sole provider of awards and accolades to trainees within the industry.
Nathan Frizzo of National Glass, Boondall, was announced runner-up for Apprentice of the Year; Callum Wallace from Qld Windows, Rockhampton, took home the High Achiever Award, and Tupariki Maka, from Stegbar Helensvale, the Residential Installation Award.
It was not the first time Tupariki Maka has been recognised for his glazing skills, after being named the GSA National Apprentice of the Year for 2014.
GSA is part of Improve Group Learning Solutions, which is a Queensland finalist in the 2015 Telstra Business Awards.
Attending the ceremony Bob Carter, Improve Group Learning Solutions Managing Director, said he was thrilled to see the men taking industry accolades, which was tribute to their professional development.
“Hard work and guided direction make up the perfect recipe for success,” Mr Carter said.
“I couldn’t be prouder of them; they really show what a bit of motivation and commitment to workplace learning can do when you are passionate about your trade.”
As a registered training organisation, GSA works with its clients to provide tailored, on the job, onsite training, mentoring and coaching of apprentices and glaziers seeking national qualifications.
