Bean and Leaf Café to host World’s Greatest Shave event: Childhood friend inspires owner to be brave and shave

The Bean and Leaf Café owner Rob Millard is putting his hair, beard and body hair on the line in a bid to raise up to $10,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation and commemorate his childhood friend’s son.

Rob supported his childhood friend Aylee, who lives in the UK, as she went through the devastation of losing her son Louis at 13 years old, after an almost lifelong battle to leukaemia and a brain tumour.

Aylee now raises money for brain tumour research through a special charity for Louis – LouBob’s Legacy.

“It has been difficult to see what Aylee and her family have been through and I have wanted to do something significant to show my support here in Australia for a long time,” Rob said.

The Bean and Leaf Café, which has two sites in both Cleveland and Redland Bay, will host a Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest shave event at its Bloomfield Street café on Sunday 13 March, to coincide with the Cleveland Markets.

Rob will be the first to go under the clippers and, with the support of his local community, he is willing to bare all to raise as much money as possible for the Leukaemia Foundation.

For $500 raised or less, Rob will shave his head. If he exceeds $500, he will also shave his beard. For $2,000, Rob will endure the pain of waxing his legs. At $5,000 he loses his back hair, and for a grand total of $10,000, Rob will go completely bare by waxing his chest.

“The waxing will be painful and I probably won’t be the best looking bald person but in comparison to what Aylee went through and what the millions of Australian’s whose lives are touched by cancer in some way are going through today, this is just a small gesture to show my support,” he said.

Rob is encouraging other locals who wish to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave to register and be a part of The Bean and Leaf Café’s event.

For each coffee sold on the day, The Bean and Leaf Café will donate $1 to the Leukaemia Foundation.

“Anyone can show their support on the day, even if it’s just by buying a coffee!” Rob said.

The Bean and Leaf Café has partnered with other local businesses Clippy T’s Barber Shop and Get Gorgeous which will be performing the shaves and waxing.
