As Australia’s café culture grows, one Brisbane café has harnessed the power of the perfect cup of coffee which has locals hooked after the first sip and has the business turning around enough beans a week to soon create its own custom blend.
The Bean and Leaf Café, which has two sites in both Cleveland and Redland Bay, uses a premium, specialty coffee blend from Wolff Coffee Roasters which has locals naming it the best place for coffee in Brisbane.
Owners Rob and Samantha Millard said serving top quality coffee, made to a high standard every time was key to their business’ success.
“Australia’s coffee culture is growing and we are known to have some of the best coffee in the world,” Rob said.
“Brisbane’s café scene in particular has undergone a revolution and thrived in recent years and we wanted to bring the same speciality coffee and premium food experience to the Redlands.
“An amazing coffee is something customers will always remember and hunt for when choosing a café for breakfast or lunch.”
Before opening their first café in Cleveland in 2014, first and foremost Rob and Samantha wanted to ensure they found the best coffee they could get their hands on.
“There was such a gap for premium coffee in the Redlands and we saw that as a great opportunity. We spent months researching and trialling different blends to ensure we got it right,” Rob said.
“We wanted to bring the ultimate coffee and food experience out of the city and into the suburbs.”
The investment in finding the right blend has paid off, with regular customers who can’t get enough of The Bean & Leaf Café’s coffee accounting for an estimated 80 per cent of daily sales.
Across both locations, The Bean and Leaf Café is turning over so many kilograms of Wolff Coffee Roaster’s Weiss blend per week, the business is on its way to creating its own custom blend.
“Once we reach 70 kilograms a week we can work towards developing our own blend, customised to the taste of our clients,” Rob said.
“Once this happens, we will be looking to have a number of locals on our special coffee tasting panel to ensure we continue to have the best coffee in the region.”
Founder of Wolff Coffee Roasters Peter Wolff said he was thrilled to hear his premium blend is contributing to building a strong coffee culture in the Redlands.
“It has been fantastic to work with The Bean & Leaf Café and bring our premium blend to coffee lovers in Cleveland and Redland Bay.”
In addition to its premium coffee, The Bean and Leaf Café offers healthy, gourmet food influenced by Samantha’s lifetime of experience in the hospitality industry.
“With great coffee should come great food and we want to provide Cleveland and Redland Bay residents with fresh, healthy and convenient food which can be tailored to tastes and dietary requirements,” Samantha said.
