Revolutionary new insulated façade system sets safety benchmark

Leading Australian manufacturer of thermal building solutions and lightweight architectural systems, Metecno PIR, has launched a revolutionary new panelling system for builders and developers.

The breakthrough Australian product, named MetecnoKasset®, is the first system tested under the new standard for Fire Propagation for Exterior Walls AS5113 set by Standards Australia in March 2016. With its rigorous testing, it sets the new safety benchmark for use particularly on high-rise apartments.

The revolutionary new insulated system is fully tested and approved to be used as a curtain wall system. MetecnoKasset® can be installed from inside the building and offers a range of improved thermal properties.

Metecno PIR’s General Manager, Colin Richman, said the system evolved from a need for safer working conditions for local builders and cost-saving measures for developers which can then be passed on to end users.

“We’ve been developing MetecnoKasset® with Cladding Systems for the past two years to ensure it surpasses existing systems and reduces the need for perimeter scaffolding whilst reducing workload on external cranes,” Mr Richman said.

“This is truly innovative technology; with its durable and versatile design, it can reduce installation time by up to 50 percent and has already saved one client over $1 million on one project.”

MetecnoKasset® has already proven its ability to help companies save money and still maintain the highest of safety standards.

Cladding Systems, who designed, manufactured and installed MetecnoKasset®, converting the heritage-listed Yorkshire brewery building in Collingwood into a modern 15 and 17 storey tower development, saved a staggering $1 million in scaffolding equipment by utilising the new product on site.

Project Manager Damian Hogan from Cladding Systems claimed MetecnoKasset® has revolutionised the way the industry will conduct business.

“Due to the restricted access and a number of other limitations on site, we found the speed and efficiency of MetecnoKasset® outstanding. The new lightweight system together with a traditional installation method significantly reduced the labour costing and program times without relying on the site crane other than floor loading,” Mr Hogan said. 

The installation cycle on average was two floors per week, without the need for any external access.

Mr Richman said the system is a breakthrough in installation methods and safety, and expects a high volume of demand from architects, builders and developers.

MetecnoKasset® provides a lightweight, easy to install and a more affordable alternative to tilt panels, and its narrow wall profile gives more floor space than traditional concrete tilt ups.

The system also offers a major reduction in dead loads on the floor and ceiling, reducing the impact and weight on lower floors and the building as a whole.

The Metecno Australia group CEO, Geoff Marsdon, said the new system reflects Metecno’s shift in market focus.

“The launch of MetecnoKasset® also bucks the trend in local manufacturing. At a time when other manufacturers are closing down or relocating offshore, the company has kept production local, with Brisbane and more recently a state of the art facility in Melbourne being the manufacturing hubs of MetecnoKasset®,” Mr Marsdon said.

Metecno’s products are approved and tested to Australian standards, while adhering to the strictest international regulations.

MetecnoKasset®’s other accreditations and testing include: AS/NZS 4284:2008 Building Façade Testing (Structural SLS, Air Infiltration, Water Penetration, Structural ULS) and acoustic assessments Rw 25 to 55.
